Anger is an important barometer for your health

By T.J. Lee

Are you angry?   Do you often experience a sudden burst of anger?   Have you experienced uncontrollable rage?   Anger can be detrimental to relationships, friendships, career and peace of mind, but the worst of all is that anger can lead you to an unhealthy life.   In the context of oriental medicine, anger can be both a clinical manifestation and a pathogenic factor.   Anger is a sign of imbalance.

Imbalance of the body can lead to anger.   If one starts to display unusual temperament, one can suspect that one ' s body is in a state of imbalance.   Also, in eastern medicine, anger is considered as one of the most important pathogenic factors among seven emotional factors.   These are anger, joy, melancholy, worry, grief, fear and fright.   Prolonged anger can impair the smooth movement of qi (pronounced chi), and can lead to headaches, distention, digestive disorders, frequent sighing, irregular menstruation, and many other symptoms.   Anger injures the liver, and can cause qi to rise up causing other physical symptoms.

Anger also represents an imbalance in meridians.   Meridians which have closer relationships with anger are " Yangming " meridians (stomach and large intestine meridians), " Taiyin " meridians (lung and spleen meridians).   By balancing the meridians through acupuncture treatment, anger can be managed.   Also, herbs can be used as a complimentary treatment.

You may think the cause of your anger is your boss or spouse.   When meridians are in balance and you are enjoying health from balance of qi, you will view of your boss or spouse differently.

In eastern medicine, anger is the worst symptom human can manifest.   Anger leads to physical ailments and separates people from all the things important to them.

Acupuncture treatment focuses not on the physical movement of qi alone but also the emotional and spiritual elements of imbalance.

Following are some tips for life without anger:

•  Try your best to resolve and understand anger

•  Religious praying

•  Meditation

•  Exercise

•  Avoid spicy and greasy food

•  Eat healthy and regularly throughout the day

•  Avoid excessive caffeine

•  Be closer to nature

•  Acupuncture
